How much did you eat this past weekend? If you are like many Americans, chances are you overindulged. Such weekend indulging may make weight control difficult. A recent study* found that people who were trying to lose weight ate more during weekends than on weekdays. This made it more difficult for them to lose weight. In other words, the “binge over the weekend, starve during the week” mentality creates havoc on weight control. The researchers noted that regular weekend indulgences may explain why weight loss comes slowly and why it’s so difficult to keep weight off for some people.

Granted, weekends are for fun and relaxing, and a little treat now and then is fine. Many people who are successful in keeping lost weight off do enjoy their weekends without going overboard. How do they do it? Healthy lifestyle consistency. They may split an entrée and dessert when eating out to help control portion sizes and calories. They may eat a small salad before going to a party to prevent eating too many hors d’œuvres. Just some food for thought before letting loose this upcoming weekend.
